Information Access:
Enhancing Rural Healthcare in North Dakota
Funded by the National Library of Medicine
under a contract (NO1-LM-6-3523) with the University of Illinois at Chicago.
The project received funding from March 1, 1997 to January 31, 1999. The final
report was published in May of 1999.
- There were two main intents of this project.
- The first was to improve the level of access to information available to healthcare providers in the rural areas of the state of North Dakota.
- The second was to improve the information seeking skills of the healthcare providers throughout rural areas of the state.
- The following activities were related to this project:
- Displays at professional healthcare conferences.
- Classes in several communities on accessing healthcare information on the Internet and searching NLM databases:
- Internet Grateful Med,
- PubMed,
- AidsLine, and
- a variety of health information databases.
- MEDSTAR program on searching the MEDLINE databases.
- Publications outlining services available.
- Identification and development of future services.
- Classes and Exhibits
- Members of the Outreach Project team are available to give demonstrations, teach hands-on classes or do exhibits related to access to health care information. For more information please contact one of the team members listed below. They are continuously scheduling events.
