ILLiad Interlibrary Loan for the Library of the Health Sciences has a new look.  The web pages for the Interlibrary Loan service have been redesigned as part of a recent software update.  Menu items are now located on the left side of the ILLiad web pages.  This change will not affect any outstanding Interlibrary Loan requests or any of your existing full text articles.  If you have questions about the redesigned web pages, please contact Webmaster.  Other Interlibrary Loan questions should still be directed to the ILL Office.

The library's web site now provides an RSS Feed Aggregator for authenticated users.  This new feature provides a place to aggregate all your RSS Feeds (such as those exported from PubMed searches, found on news sources, etc).  To use the feature, put the URL of the feed (found by copying the link location/shortcut on an RSS or XML image like RSS or XML) into the "Feed URL" field in the "RSS Feeds" section on the main page of the library web site and click the "Add Feed" button (you must be logged in for this section to be available).

RSS Feeds for PubMed search results can be generated by choosing "RSS Feed" under the "Send to" drop-down list and following the instructions.

New Library Web Site
Posted Monday, August 4, 2003, 2:38 am by HEFL Webmaster
The Harley French Library has changed its web site.  The new site improves navigation, provides more consistent pages, and adheres to modern web page standards and accessibility guidelines.  Many pages and links have been recategorized to improve the overall structure of the site.

Menus are now opened by clicking on them rather than by mousing over them, reducing unexpected menu openings and improving adherence to accessibility guidelines.

A new "Help" menu has been added to the site.  This menu consolidates the User Instructions, Fact Sheets, Charges, and Frequently Asked Questions that were previously located under various other menus and areas of the homepage.

The "Internet Resources" menu has been divided into "Electronic Resources" and "Links to Sites" menus.

The "Departments" menu has been moved under the "Library Information" menu.

If you have comments or questions about the new site, contact Theresa Norton at tnorton@medicine.nodak.edu.
New Live Help Service
Posted Friday, April 4, 2003, 12:00 am by HEFL Webmaster
The Library of the Health Sciences brings you Live Help on the Web! Live Help is the name of the library's new virtual reference service, which allows your to receive information and assistance online from our librarians through our Web site. Go to the library's web site and click on the Live Help icon, which appears on the banner near the top of the screen and in the body of the home page. You will be connected in real-time chat mode with the reference librarian on duty. In addition to chatting with the librarian, you may be escorted through the library's electronic resources, led to other Web sites.

To begin, Live Help is offered from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Hours of the virtual reference service will be expanded gradually, and in about a week evening hours will be added when our partners at the Hawaii Medical Library come online.

The Live Help project is funded by a grant from the National Library of Medicine (1-G07-LM07739-01) under their Internet Access to Digital Libraries program. Participant librarians are from the Library of the Health Sciences, including its three clinical campuses outside Grand Forks, and from the Hawaii Medical Library in Honolulu.
New Proxy System
Posted Thursday, March 27, 2003, 12:00 am by HEFL Webmaster
Beginning Tuesday March 25 2003, the staff of the Harley E. French Library of the Health Sciences will provide remote users with a new proxy system called EZProxy.

EZProxy will verify that remote users are authorized to use the library's licensed electronic resources, and then allow them to gain access to those resources. EZProxy allows users to use proxied resources without special set-up on their computers. Remote users will be asked for their proxy account information ONLY when they are going to a resource that requires its use.

Existing Harley French proxy users will continue to use their current proxy user name and password. They should, however, turn off the old proxy set-up to eliminate any conflicts between the old proxy system and the new EZProxy system.

New proxy users will use their medicine.nodak.edu e-mail address as their EZProxy user name and their e-mail password as their EZProxy password.

Authorized users without medicine e-mail accounts or existing Harley French proxy accounts should contact Theresa Norton to apply for an EZProxy account.

Please contact Theresa Norton, Computer Services Librarian, by email at tnorton@medicine.nodak.edu or by telephone (701-777-2946) with any questions
