    SUPERSIZE YOUR SEARCH SKILLS Posted Wednesday, January 18, 2012, 12:24 pm
    Get ideas that will help you Supersize your Search Skills by attending a presentation by the Reference Librarians of the Harley E. French Library of the Health Sciences.   All library classes are free and open to all.  Advance registration is not required.  All classes will be 20 minutes long with a 10 minute Q & A following the presentation.

    Supersize your Search Skills will be offered from 12:15 to 12:45 pm on Tuesdays and repeated from 4 to 4:30 pm on Thursdays.   Session title, date, time and location follow for the first 3 Supersize presentations:

    (1.) PubMed Advanced Search, 12:15 to 12:45 pm Tuesday, Jan 24 in United Lecture Hall and 4 to 4:30 pm Thursday, Jan 26 in the Library Classroom.

    (2.) RefWorks & Other Bibliographic Management Software , 12:15 to 12:45 pm Tuesday, Feb 7 in United Lecture Hall and 4 to 4:30 pm Thursday, Feb 9 in the Library Classroom.  And

    (3.) My NCBI: How to Track Searches and Load Collections in  PubMed, 12:15 to 12:45 pm Tuesday, Feb 21 in United Lecture Hall and 4 to 4:30 pm Thursday, Feb 23 in the Library Classroom.

    PubMed Advanced Search: UPDATED Posted Tuesday, January 3, 2012, 2:12 pm
    An updated PubMed Advanced Search interface was launched in December of 2011.  The page has been modified to provide users with a less cluttered, more intuitive way to build searches.   Instructions with screen prints are available from the NLM Technical Bulletin and you can also watch a YouTube Video demonstrating use of the PubMed Advanced Search Builder .  For additional assistance using the PubMed Advanced search contact one of the Harley E. French Librarians. .

    The Harley E. French Library of the Health Sciences is recruiting for the position of Southwest Clinical Campus Librarian.  Position posting #12-163

    This position is located at the Southwest Clinical Campus of the UND School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Bismarck, ND.  Job duties include the following: (1.) Provide reference and information support services for clientele affiliated with the UND School of Medicine and Health Sciences and the UND College of Nursing. (2.) Design and provide instruction and curriculum support to clientele affiliated with the UND SMHS and CON. (3.) In the southwest quadrant of North Dakota, provide outreach information services to remote users and to health care personnel not affiliated with UND. Includes traveling to other clinical teaching sites to introduce and foster awareness of services provided by the Library , and giving presentations and classes. 4.) Provide reference and user education services at the Medcenter One Health Sciences Library in Bismarck. (5.) And Catalog newly acquired materials for the Medcenter One Health Sciences Library.

    Connecting E-science and Team Science: The Changing Nature of Research will be webcast in the library's classroom here in Grand Forks and at the UND Medical Education Center in Fargo on Friday, November 18, from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
    Presenters are Layne M. Johnson, translational science information specialist at the University of Minnesota; Holly Falk-Krzesinski, at the Northwestern University Clinical and Translation Science Institute, which is supported by the National Institutes of Health's Clinical and Translational Science Award; and Jennifer Lyon, clinical research librarian at the University of Florida Health Science Center.
    To ensure that you receive a participant's manual, please RSVP in advance to Theresa Norton, (701) 777-2946, if you are planning to attend in Grand Forks or to Mary Markland, (701) 293-4173 if you are planning to attend in Fargo.  Walk-ins are also welcome.

    The h-index (Hirsch Index) is a research performance measurement. You can learn about the h-index by going to the  h-index section of the Librarys How-to Guide for Faculty Development Resources. You will find links to articles about the h-index and a link to Research Performance Measurement: Introducing the SciVerse Scopus h-index. This user guide will provide directions to utilize the Scopus database to create an h-index.
